Ovoid

An egg shape might be described as oval (the word oval comes from the Latin word for egg and means ‘having the shape of an egg’).  It looks like an ellipse which has been slightly squished at one end.   Or perhaps spheroid (means a bit like a sphere, but not exactly!)

The three-dimensional (or sculptural) term for an oval, is ovoid.

Anyway, this egg-shaped egg is mesmerisingly beautiful and perfect in form.  What an evolution of subtle contours and outline in the softest of chalky white. It is my first goose egg of the year and finding it in the nest yesterday turned everything to joy.  In celebration I’ve popped my egg on a plinth to note its specialness.

(A worthy candidate for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in my view).
