Golden things

Golden things

Precious golden things.

Today my favourite things are golden –  the bright gold spring sun on my yellow daffodils, making colours to match my ammonite fossil and the stone I’m carving.

Rich, deep natural earth colours –  umber, ochre, and sienna pigments – valued warm golden shades.

Satisfying, quenching.

It was a wonderful feeling being in the quarry bottom, with great walls of stone rising on all sides – its Magnesian Limestone from Tadcaster – used for building since Medieval times. In York, the City walls, Norman Minster and numerous medieval parish churches as well as Selby Abbey, Beverley Minster and Hazelwood Castle have all been constructed using Tadcaster stones – taken from the quarry and transported by river (or canal).

I’ll take a bit of Spring first!
