Vase - Stoneycombe Marble

Vase – Stoneycombe Marble

Formed in the middle Devonian period, around 350 million years ago, Stoneycombe was laid down in shallow, tropical seas containing a rich variety of corals, sponges and other fossilised remains which are evident in its lively appearance.

Ripples in the creamy veining seem to suggest lapping waves, or patterns left in the sand, which are allowed full expression in the simple, curved shape of these vases.

The stem vases are polished with very careful attention to enhance the exquisite range of soft pinks, light reds and grey colouring and reveal the intricately shaped crustaceans preserved deep in the rock.

The vase is hand made in a simple design to the finest detail and polished here in my Lastingham workshop as part of The British Marble Vase Collection.  The collection celebrates the beauty of natural stone and in particular the exceptional colour and pattern variation found in British marbles.
