Crake sculpture carved in Yorkstone – 5″ x 10″ x 5″
This piece was created as a garden sculpture, where the planted habitat is perfect for this bird to take cover, better still if there is a pond. Its features convey a feeling of the skulking and the almost prowling nature of these rare and extraordinary birds.
Crakes are mostly secretive and elusive rather than shy, hiding in thick vegetation such as rushes and reeds surrounding overgrown pools, communicating with each other with loud calls.
They have, in side-view, rather round bodies, though are narrow end-on enabling them to slip easily through reeds.
