Partridges pair up early in Spring, and they breed during their first year. They stay together in family groups called ‘Coveys’. These coveys will stay together during Autumn and Winter, not breaking up until the birds start to form pairs in early January.
They are highly social birds, and after breeding it is quite normal for two, or even three, families to join together into one large covey of twenty or more birds.
