Speciality Pumpkin
The shapes and forms of heirloom pumpkins and the speciality varieties of squashes and gourds are simply irresistible at this time of year. The fulsome lobes, furrows, ribs and bobbles an ornamental relish, and the colours such a real delight of Autumn.
So seductive in fact, that I had to carve my very own pumpkin and selected this pale green serpentine stone for my sculpture, with its ivory veining and occasional speckles and blushes. These seasonal hues suggesting a ripeness, a ready-for-picking condition, and resplendent when polished to a soft sheen.
I know pumpkins are so good in warming soups, roasted and in a myriad of culinary delights during October and November, but really I like best to just look at them for their ample contours, variety of shape, and generous lines.
