Leaf Birdbath
Sculptural Leaf Birdbath complete with perched bird carved in natural stone – 34″ x 23″ x 13″
For my recent show Beautiful & Useful at Sussex Prairies Gardens I popped this Birdbath on a plinth and it created a handsome and much admired feature – especially with the wonderful backdrop of the dramatic Amaranthus planting. Of course it is a Birdbath which would happily sit on the ground too.
The stone block it was carved from is Howley Park sandstone which had some really beautiful rust coloured markings on the outer edge, which I tried to retain in the piece. You can just see them in the image, running towards the tip of the leaf along the edge – just like an Autumn leaf beginning to turn!
And mustn’t forget the bird, perched on the leaf stem, about to take a refreshing dip.
Although a bird didn’t actually come and take advantage of the bath while I was at the show, even though temperatures soared, butterflies and bees did and delighted with their buzzing and flitting.
