Nature’s favourite shape

Hexagon pots for spring bulbs and planting

Is the hexagon nature’s favourite shape?  I keep seeing it, and the more I look, the more the six sides jump out at me.  It is quite a satisfying, solid shape – a stable shape.

The Giant’s Causeway, honeycomb, tortoise or turtle shell, snowflake, flower shapes, poppy seeds – there are lots more examples.

I’ve chosen the shape for these stone pots – today the sun shone, tender shoots emerge and buds show colour.  One I’ve made into a vase, for those early fresh picked flowers.  I love the look of the new, delicately vibrant green – so encouraging!

Come, gentle spring.

The pots are part of my spring collection being shown at the Gardens Illustrated Festival at the end of March.
